The hike begins at Injisuthi Camp, where lush valleys and the towering peaks of Cathkin Peak, Monks Cowl and Champagne Castle set the stage for the adventure. As hikers traverse the initial trails, they encounter the serene Shower Cave, a natural rock shelter that provides a brief respite and a preview of the stunning sights to come. Continuing onward, the path leads to Grindstone Cave, named after the historic grindstone found within its confines. This relic is a poignant reminder of the area’s colonial visitors and their resourceful way of life.

Inside Grindstone Cave, hikers can marvel at faded San Rock Art adorning the walls. These fragile and evocative paintings tell stories of a bygone era, offering glimpses into the spiritual and cultural lives of the San people. James Seymour’s expertise as an anthropologist and San Rock Art Custodian adds depth to the experience as he shares insights into the significance of these artworks and the importance of their preservation.

Onward to Marble Baths

From Grindstone Cave, the trail ascends toward Marble Baths, a natural oasis surrounded by the rugged grandeur of the Drakensberg. Along the way, hikers are treated to awe-inspiring views of the Greater and Lesser Injisuthi Buttresses. These majestic formations dominate the skyline, their craggy silhouettes contrasting beautifully with the verdant valleys below.
